CAPS Energises 4 Autism With An Epic Walking Journey - CAPS

Posted on 10th September 2013 in

CAPS Australia is proud to lend its support to ‘Energise 4 Autism’, a fundraising campaign run by Hunter Connect during September aimed at helping families living with the challenges of Autism.

CAPS Energise 4 AutismWayne Hampton, a parts interpreter at CAPS’ Newcastle branch, whose family is affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), has taken up the ‘Energise 4 Autism’ challenge to raise funds for this wonderful charity. “I am committed to walking 70 km a week in September, I know I will be better for it in more ways than one,” said Hampton.

Whilst the challenge suggests that participants undertake one healthy change for one month (for example, eat healthier food, drink healthier fluids, and/or exercise), Wayne has taken his commitment to the cause to a whole new level by embarking on an epic walking journey.

Hunter Connect, which is run out of the Newcastle and Hunter Valley regions of New South Wales (NSW) has identified that the prevalence of children living Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has increased over the past two decades, with the hunter region having the highest rate of Autism in Australia with 1,500 children affected.

With social interaction being the greatest challenge for someone with ASD, Hunter Connect assists children with intervention training to help them best handle school environments, which are full of numerous and complex social interactions that can cause anxiety, and possible withdrawals or exclusions from a regular school life.

Hampton continues, “that’s what Energise 4 Autism is all about – making a positive change in my own life over 30 days, developing a healthy habit while helping families affected by Autism via sponsorship”.

You can help these children in need of support by sponsoring Wayne as he embarks on his daily walks for Energise 4 Autism by making a tax deductible sponsorship/donation in his name via the website www.givenow.com.au/hunterconnectenergise4autism
