Why Is Class 0 Certification For Air Compressors So Important? - CAPS

Posted on 10th October 2013 in

In 2001, the Class 0 certification was created in response to industry needs for oil-free air. Class 0 is the most stringent air quality class and certifies that a compressor discharges air free of added oil aerosols, vapours and liquids. Air purity is essential to many critical processes in industries such as pharmaceutical, food and beverage, electronics and textile.

Class 0 Oil-Free Air CompressorsOil-free compressors not only provide purer air, but can save time and money while improving business productivity. They reduce maintenance costs by minimising the need for lubricating oil, inline filters and oil/air separator components. “Oil-contaminated air can spoil and ruin products, creating significant losses of revenue and customer trust. Ingersoll Rand’s range of air compressors with oil-free technology can help to significantly reduce these risks,” said Dino Alessio, leading Rotary Screw Compressor engineer at CAPS Australia.

By providing pure air, free from additional contaminants, oil-free compressors minimise downtime associated with cleaning filters and other air system components. “Reduced levels of contaminants also help air system components last longer and ensure higher overall product quality,” adds Alessio.

Ingersoll Rand has held the highly prestigious Class 0 certification on both its oil-free centrifugal and rotary screw air compressor technologies since 2007. These certifications were granted to the full range of Ingersoll Rand air-cooled and water-cooled oil-free rotary screw compressors (37 to 350 kW) and water-cooled, oil-free centrifugal compressors (160 to 5,000 kW) by TÜV Rheinland®, a global leader in independent testing and assessment services.

As Australia’s exclusive distributor of Ingersoll Rand oil-free rotary screw and centrifugal air compressors, CAPS Australia is well positioned to assist companies who have this type of compressed air system requirement.

“Ingersoll Rand was actually the first manufacturer in the world to be certified Class 0 for centrifugal air compressors, achieving this only in the past several months,” added Alessio.
