The Problem

Blending traditional winemaking values with the precise management of processing technologies, from vine to bottle, the Australian winery has the ability to increase production to meet modern demands, save overhead costs and minimise their impact on the environment.

With a production capability of thousands of bottles daily, compressed nitrogen is a vital component of the winery’s operations, required for nearly every stage of the bottling process.

After a comprehensive analysis of the existing system, CAPS identified the following

  • The winery was spending more than necessary on its nitrogen requirements.
  • Bottling capacity was restricted due to lack of available nitrogen

The company also specified that they did not want to compromise the quality of their finished product.

Solution

CAPS upgraded the bottling facility’s air compressor, teaming it up with a brand new nitrogen generation system. The previously bottled nitrogen restricted the winery to 150 cubic metres per day; the new system can double the output with spare capacity.

Reducing nitrogen costs significantly, the reliability of the CAPS compressor unit worked to provide the customer with a high level of product controllability.

Refrigerated dryers and filtration equipment were fully integrated in the compressed air system to ensure that a suitable quality of compressed air was employed.

In summary, CAPS provided the following equipment

  • 1 x UP5E-15-10 Ingersoll Rand Rotary Screw Compressor
  • 1 x HX101K Refrigerated Air Dryer
  • 1 x VR500-1100 Air Receiver and accessories
  • 1 x VR1000-1100 Air Receiver and accessories
  • 1 x IMT-PN1650 Nitrogen Generator
  • Pre and Post Filters

The upgraded compressed air system and nitrogen generators are quiet, efficient and allow a continuous and cost-effective supply of nitrogen gas and compressed air.
